Students will return to school this Thursday, and all teachers are required to be back starting on Monday. This is a new job for me and I’ve actually spent the last week in training and orientation sessions. I’ve been able to spend a little bit of time organizing the room and buying a few supplies; special thanks to my mother who helped out two days with cleaning up some of the unforgivable messes left behind by the prior teacher. In case you haven’t noticed, my blog presence is much lower than it used to be. I’m afraid that this will continue to be the case until I’ve established a routine at school and things are running smoothly. Your prayers are welcomed as I make my final preparations for the beginning of a new school year.

Tell me about it. My classroom is clean and ready to go, though all of my supplies are still unorganized in the drawers. I have tomorrow left to finish preparing and then things kick off. Just two days thankfully, and then the weekend to prepare for our first full week…

I am glad you are teaching! What age group again?
My undergrad is in special ed but long story short I was talked out of doing student teaching and so did not get certified. I left that college pretty hurt and its taken me quite a while to get over. I keep contemplating getting a M.Ed but I just don’t know yet. But I am glad it has worked out for you! If you can do it well teaching can be a great job.

I’m now teaching High School sciences, and I have my hands full. Almost all of my time right now is going to preparations for class. The first day was horrific with some major schedule changes, but day two went much better.

Nathan,
As a fellow teacher I can have a lot of sympathy with your problems. I teach at the community college level so I don’t get my own classroom like you lucky high school folks, but I know all about the meetings that take up so much time. Time that could be better used preparing lessons and getting your supplies (etc). Sometimes I think most meetings could be replaced by memos.
God bless you as you start your new job!
Martin.

Hey brother. I hope the first couple days went well. I’ve been thinking about you a lot and hope you’re surviving alright and getting some sleep.
I love you.
