Well I’ve had a review copy of both the NLTSB and TNIVSB arrive in the mail this past week. I have also recently purchased a cheap/used copy of the Catholic Study Bible (NAB) based on a recommendation from John Hobbins. I was planning on posting my review of the ESVSB today, however I am still messing around with the formatting and performing some final edits. Anyways, since this is the reason for my post today, here is an up-to-date photograph of my main Bible reference shelf:
Note that there are quite a few Bibles that I reference routinely that are not in this image. This is because they are not hardback and I store them flat in other locations. If you are curious they are the REB, NET Bible, and The Message. I’m probably going to obtain the Oxford Study Bible (REB) later this year, but I have enough to keep me busy for now as you can see. I may post the ESVSB review later tonight or most likely tomorrow, followed by a review of the NLT and TNIV study bibles.
I’ve been re-reading the tremendous number of ESV and NLT study bible reviews out there already and have changed the way I was going to originally review these books. Instead of doing a generic overview of all of the main features I will try to focus on the unique aspects of these study bibles. I’ve also had a great experience doing comparisons of the various bibles in the picture above. So I think in addition to my initial reviews this month that I will continue to review them throughout 2009 as I post comparisons of various passages.
On a final unrelated note, my Jan/Feb issue of Bible Study Magazine arrived today and I’m looking forward to reading through it. It looks like it will be just as good as the first issue, and I still recommend subscribing to this magazine which you can do here:
